Ethics and caveats

Gamification can create side effects:
  • System gaming: users doing actions “for points” without real value
  • Negative stress: toxic competition, direct comparisons
  • Burnout: streak pressure, feeling of always-on
Guidelines:
  • Opt-out anytime
  • Don’t reward quantity over quality
  • Avoid significant economic rewards (can distort behaviour)
  • Monitor team wellbeing

Deactivation

Settings → Gamification → Deactivate. Historical points stay accessible but don’t accumulate. No impact on official performance review.
